Nymphs are a common constructed life form across all of Sol, a sort of biological computer to adjust the balance of planetary ecology. These replaced the whole category of insect life in the post-Terran world, likely history’s only successful effort to get rid of fleas.
It was a logical experiment to try to “vectorize” the cannibalistic critters, at least as mad scientists use the word “logic…”
