Summary: Sports from the decadent future of After Ford 632, with a single purpose: move the economy. Attempting to define these games at all is challenging as there really is no description of them in the source material (Aldus Huxley’s “Brave New World”)

History/Culture: Mentioned in the corporate Utopia/Dystopia Brave New World, these are a few activities wihtout much in the way of description. They’re mentioned to illustrate a consumerist culture where technological complication is added to any sort of activity to help drive the economy…complex activities require complex expensive equipment. More information can be found in “The Sport of Huxley’s Brave New World“, where blogger Bloody Mulberry discusses Centrifugal Bumble Puppy, Obstacle Golf, Escalator Squash, Electro-Magnetic Golf, and Riemann Surface Tennis (!).

There’s really nothing to be known or unpacked about these games, they’re offhandedly mentioned, although what kind of game you’d get into on a Riemann Surface is a mind-boggler. But the underlying idea of how a society hyperfocused on consumerism can spin even simple physical activity into a purchasing frenzy is really relevant to the Hc Svnt Dracones world. I do think it’s interesting that if you post-date from the death of Henry Ford, we’d be around 710 or 720 AF, a calendar quite close to Hc Svnt Dracones’s 702 AE.

More of a lens on an activity than the activity itself.
